I was camping during the week, and a storm blew in and we got a lot of wind and rain for about 90 mins. Once it let up we went back outside and saw some really cool looking clouds. The sky was beautiful, yet eerie, i've never really seen this before.

We had a colorful sunset also. I did not get pictures. I wonder if some of the smoke particles from the fires out west are starting to reach our area. That could explain the more colorful sunset.

It most likely is, in 2018 the smoke from the Camp Fire (the one the destroyed Paradise CA) made it to the east coast. The CA fires now are larger than that one was. I haven't seen it here as its been pretty cloudy.

I have read that the smoke from the fires have reached as far as Kansas. That said, it would not surprise me at all if they reached all the way to the east coast.
Just the 3 biggest fires are now well over 1,000 square miles of burned landscape; the biggest fire year in California history, AND it all hit within a couple of days (one day actually). It is inconceivable to me how anyone can expect to respond to this. We were watching the CZU Complex fire from a ridge about 1,000 feet above the fire and 4 miles distant. I find it difficult to describe to you the enormity of this fire (which is a LOT smaller than the LNU fire and the SCO fire). I "thought" they did not have any air support. Quite the contrary, they had half a dozen very large helicopters dropping water on the fire. The only problem was that without binoculars, it was difficult to make them out. Looking through binoculars they appeared as gnats spitting on a bonfire.

If I'm understanding this NOAA website correctly the heavy smoke concentrations are now reaching the Great Lakes but some lighter plumes are already well out into the Atlantic.
