How about one of these that Home Depot carries (I would assume Lowe's or other hardware store would have also)?

The lynch pin with the ring top is the type used to lock my Hensley Cub hitch.

Thanks...I can't see what keeps the linch pin in but the locking pin could work. I'll take the post there with me.

The loop is offset in the head so it puts tension on the loop. When it is flipped over, it locks the pin in place.

I don't know what size the hole is, but it sounds small. You could probably run a section of a coat hanger thru it and just give it a slight bend to prevent it falling out. Coat hanger material is very pliable. Hardware store also sell 3 foot lengths of small diameter steel (1/8, 3/16) and you could buy some of that also.

Stephen, thanks for the images.  I don't think that will work because the pin sits parallel to the ground.  It looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Andersen-Hitches-3431-Non-Locking-Adjustment/dp/B0017KIYOQ/ref=asc_df_B0017KIYOQ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242015087210&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=302759492574667535&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9002711&hvtargid=pla-57043558

But in looking for that I see that Andersen may actually have an option.  I sure appreciate all the help!

someone suggested Tractor supply-good idea.
Tractors and farm implements use a vast array of cotter pin type fasteners, pins and clips.  Take something(bolt, pencil, dowel, etc) that is the same diameter so you know what will fit. since you need one now, you might as well buy 2-they are not expensive now, but  they are priceless when you need them

Went to TS and got a great little ring that clips done to keep the pin in place. I tool my post with me so was able to make sure it fit.  Thanks for all the help.

Another option is a safety pin like this.
