I'm wondering if anyone knows of an alternative to a traditional cotter pin. My Andersen WDH requires one and its very hard for me to use. I end up trying to grip it with pliers or pound it our with my rubber mallet.  I've tried a smaller cotter pin but it bends making it just as hard to remove.

I'm thinking a straight pin with a lock on the end or something (there's something form Master but its too think to slide through the hole it needs to go into.)

Thanks!
Julie

You can get those in various sizes at a place like Home Depot, or probably better, ACE hardware.

If your talking about the clip part of item 2 in the Anderson wdh manual maybe you could find a carabiner that would be the right size and diameter to replace it.

Yes...did that. Went to ace. That's where I got the smaller one that I could handle to put on but, because it was smaller it bent. making it even harder to remove. I want something different, something I can use more easily.

How about a small bolt with a partially threaded shaft?

You have a Tractor Supply near you? They deal in heavy stuff.

I like the bolt idea too and there is, I think, a tractor supply.  I think I have some good things to try now. Thanks a lot!

If you use a  bolt and nut be sure to get a nylock nut. If that nut works its way off and the bolt comes out bad things could happen. Star

Was thinking about that. The way it fits there several other bad things would have to happen first but I take your point. The carabiner isn't working because of its shape.  I'll look for one that is shaped differently.
