WHAT??? This is great! A bit embarrassing also.
The manual indicates a mini input jack socket in another location and I never once looked
for anything else. Thanks for the post/picture
Tomtreas. Looks like I have another good
shelter in place project for today. |

I actually did find that I had a bit collection that has some in it that have longer shanks than your garden variety multi-tip screwdriver and those worked well. The holes in the stereo are kinda deep so I needed the extra shank length. See my other post for my solution on getting the TV audio to the rear AUX input on the stereo. =) Thanks for your help and keep up the great stuff!!

I have mine hooked up. On a recent outage I went to Target and picked up a 6' RCA male to male stereo cable. During that outing I just used the AV cable and plugged into the front AUX jack and just plugged the RCA stereo audio out on the TV to the audio for that cable. When I got the Jensen stereo out, I looked at the back and discovered that the AUX 1 is AUDIO ONLY and consists of two RCA female left and right inputs. It is marked as such. I'm attempting to include a photo of this with that input circled. I didn't get fancy with the cabling but just dropped it down so that I could retrieve it from behind the AV cable plate and just let the wire come out the side. That gave me just enough to plug it into the back of the stereo easily and still have just enough to make along the plastic cable wrap and over to the TV audio output. Works like a charm!

Tomtreas, Just a thought, if you haven’t removed the Jensen stereo yet
to check it out you may want to do it before you do any work or buy any
materials for your mod. We also have a 2016-178 and planned to do the
same mod. I’ve taken that Jensen unit
out numerous times for a variety of reasons and I’ll be darned if I can find
that rear AUX port. I know, the owner’s
manual shows an AUX input on the rear of the unit, you can even switch to that
AUX port on the front, but it just doesn’t exist on my unit. How can that be? Now, if you already have taken it out and have located that pesky
rear AUX port could you share a picture?
I’d love to know where it’s at and how I’ve managed to completely miss
it all these years. As an FYI, (see picture) the Jensen unit is actually deeper
than the depth of the wall cabinet. The
good folks at FR roughed out a hole in the wall (with their eyes closed) for
the stereo to poke into and the rats nest of wires to come out of for all the
electronics. |

I think you would be better served by getting a small set with a driver handle and assorted bits. That way, you will be able to use the one that fits your particular need. I think you would find having more than one size handy. I pretty sure it uses an #2 bit. If you already have a suitable driver handle, you could just order a set of the bits or look for them in your local Harbor Freight, Lowe's, or Home Depot or other store. I like the idea of a jack so I may re-do mine and put in a jack also. For mine, given that I already have a larger size hole, I would probably need to use a 1/4" jack instead. Thank you for the idea.

Thank you Stephen! I have seen many of your otheR escaPOD mods in here and have even implemented a few already. I am adept enough with a soldering iron and wiring that I may not have to use a split grommet in the hole however, in looking at my plate it does look like there is plenty of room to put the hole where you speak, like they left room for a third "something" to be put in there. I may actually opt to mount a 1/8" jack into said hole and just bring the back AUX connections out where they can be accessed at that point. The cabinet that my Jensen stereo is mounted in sticks out about 3" from where the plate and TV is below. I'm guessing that the wall is open between the two for fishing the wires then? I also noticed that I need to make a trip to the local hardware store for a square drive screwdriver for MANY things in my 178. Do you know the size of square driver that I need to get?

I carefully drilled a small hole through the antenna connecting/booster plate and got a split rubber washer to line it. The wire goes from the TV through there to the back of the Jensen unit. I'm not sure if the location of the antenna connector/booster plate is in a similar relationship to allow you to do this on your 178 as I did on our 179.

I picked up an audio cable and came out of the Jensen TV audio output RCA connectors and plugged them into the like jacks on the supplied AV cable, and plugged it into the front AUX jack on the Jensen stereo. It worked like a champ. Once I get brave enough to try and figure out how to get that same cable into the wall or through a wall plate and then to the AUX2 port in the back, then it'll all be very neatly tied up.
Thanks for your suggestions!

I use my smartphone for streaming while camping rather than my Roku, one less thing to take along, and you can use that with either mobile data or wifi. You can get a phone to hdmi adapter for the TV. The stereo has bluetooth so you can stream audio to directly from the phone. That also gives you music via a streaming service like Spotify if you want. Just a suggestion.
