Managed to get back on the trail this past weekend. Destination Rowley, an Alberta Ghost Town. The residents (not all ghosts) allow camping in some parts of the town site. No services, no grocery, though there is a small washroom facility. The town is close to numerous tourist attractions of the dinosaur and badlands variety. But on the last Saturday of every month, Rowley itself is the tourist attraction. They open the bar, SAM's Saloon, and host a pizza night. As I understand it, all proceeds go to maintaining the townsite and upgrading the buildings.
There was a good crowd, a dozen or so Westphalias camped out, another dozen or so Corvettes came out for the night, and the usual assortment of trailers, vans and tenters. There's a great playground and volunteers lead tours through the historic buildings.
Everyone comes to Alberta for the mountains.. I recommend checking out this prairie town about two hours from Calgary.
