We have a one-cup Keurig coffee maker in the pod that we really like.  We've tried all of the other options, including the cheap little thing from Walmart that lets you use k-cups manually.  All of the other options are fine, but we got sucked into the habit of Keurig coffee at home, so it's just nice and easy to be able to use the k-cups while camping.

There is something evil about Keurig (they are so ineffiecient, expensive, wasteful, and non-eco friendly) but they work....

The coffee maker in our Pod is made from fully repurposed stuff:  A mesh coffee filter left over from a Mr. Coffee coffee maker, 4 stainless steel screws I put in around the top of the filter to hold it in place that were left over from my sail boat days, and a stainless steel cylinder pot of about a quart capacity that used to be in the kitchen to hold cooking spoons.  And, it has nothing that will break or wear out.

We use the Melitta single serve pour-over, whether we are at home or on the road. We each usually only drink one cup of coffee, and the single serve pour over makes a quality cup of coffee. A pound of coffee generally lasts a couple of weeks or more.

I drink way more coffee than I should, I imagine...I use a Keurig at home for the convenience, but I don't like the space it takes up nor the amps it draws for the rpod. I have a travel 12v percolator from the late 60s/early 70s, as well as the Melitta pour-over for traveling. Also a full size enamel-ware percolator for the gas stove or campfire.

It makes a fantastic cup of coffee and you can get a press that is only 1 cup if you want.  Very light weight, no extra power and compact.  Just boil water, stir it in and press the plunger - as easy as making tea!

I really like the french press but find it to be a difficult cleanup in a camper with limited water to work with, I find at home it takes a lot of water to wash and rinse. Do you have a trick for use in the Pod?

That is where the Melitta pour-over filter is great. All the grounds are confined in the filter.

If, as the original post specified, a Pod type brewer is requested, and if power is available, why not a Nespresso machine? They look to be somewhat more compact than a lot of the Keurig machines and probably make a better cup of coffee.

I do agree that the drawback of a french press is that its messy. You've convinced me to try the little pour over filter.

I think the pour over is smoother, and the French press is maybe a bit richer. If you do the pour over slowly, you can get real close to the richness of the press.

With our coffee maker made from repurposed stuff, we can fill it until the filter basket is a little submerged, then let it steep a bit before pouring the coffee.  And with the generic paper coffee filters, it's easy to keep the grounds from being messy.  As good as a french press, easy to clean up and practically free.  The real secret to good coffee, though, is freshly ground Colombian Supremo coffee brewed strong.  Thumbs Up
