My wife and I decided that it was time to spend some quality time in a travel trailer.  We first saw the R-Pod several years ago in an RV show in Pittsburgh...  it was definitely "Infatuation at first sight".   In October, after a lot of reading forums and visiting web sites, we decided to take the plunge.

We contacted the nice folks at Couch's RV Nation in Southwestern Ohio, and decided on an R-Pod 190...  It's the 10th anniversary edition.  They treated us really well, and in no time at all, we were towing it back across Ohio with our 2015 Toyota Highlander.  The trip back was easy driving with no surprises.

Couch's RV fitted us out with an E2 Weight Distribution hitch, a seven prong plug and an electric brake controller.  I am hopeful that our Highlander will handle the load.  With cold weather fast approaching, we took some tips from this forum and winterized.  I probably used three gallons of the "pink stuff", and we are tucked in for the Winter.

We are grateful for this forum, not only for the good winterizing advice, but for all of the practical mods that we have found here, lots of clever and creative things to consider!

My wife Sandy and I live in Upper Saint Clair.  Which is a bit of a disadvantage for RV owners because we cannot have our trailer parked in our drive way for more than 96 hours.  We have it stored near us though, so no complaints.

Welcome to the forum. Just a quick note, you only need about a gallon of pink stuff to winterize. I use alot and I only use about 1 1/2 - 2 gallons. I like to put alot in my traps to make sure I get all the water out. Hope you emptied the hot water tank, and didnt put pink stuff in there.

Since this was my first attempt, I figured that too much was better than not enough.  Next Fall, I will try use a little less.  As far as the water heater goes, it's never been used, so i followed the instructions found on this forum and closed the valves to the heater, took out the anode rod and replaced it when the tank was empty.  Honestly, it was pretty straight forward.  I guess that the only challenge was that the water supply tank bellied down and could not be completely drained.  The trailer was level front to back but was a little low on the starboard side, I think that's where the excess pink stuff ended up. Embarrassed

By using compressed air, which I have utilized since 2012, the amount of rv antifreeze needed is greatly reduced.  I use a total 0f 16 oz. for the 2 sink traps, 1 shower trap, and a little bit on top of the toilet flange to keep the seal wet.

Like Jato I use compressed air to winterize, some people love it others disagree, and about 1/2 gallon of RV antifreeze in the traps and Grey & Black water tanks.

You in Pittsburgh area Phragmanic? Seems I go through there at least once a year, always liked it. Enjoy your new camper come spring!
