Topic: Ideal location for a battery disconnect switch Posted: 19 Sep 2018 at 11:16am |
I am looking to add a battery disconnect switch to my pod but not sure where to mount it. I was maybe looking near the battery or frame near the battery. Ideas would be great...Thanks!

I put ours right on the box. I just cut out one of the box vents and mounted it through that hole. I used a HELLA brand switch not a Chinese knock off, 7 years later, the switch still works fine according to the current owners.
I used the same switch when we changed to dual GC2's..

My was easy. Just put it next to the battery box on the frame and used tie straps around the frame.... Works great.

Just a comment which I’m sure will start a debate.
You should never leave lead acid batteries without a charge source for more than a week or so at the most. Plate sulfation will result. So if you can keep your rPod connected to ac then do that and let your charger do it’s thing. If you dont have access to ac power and the trailer is stored outdoors then install a solar charger. If you have no source of power where you store your trailer andno solar access then remove the battery(ies) and maintain their charge at home. Either way I just don’t get the benefit of a disconnect. I removed the one that I got with my trailer, which stays connected to ac all the time unless I’m using it.

Don't disagree with a thing you said, however I use the battery disconnect for several purposes to include maintenance and troubleshooting. Not that hard to install and to me serves a purpose. To each his own and probably not a post you'd be interested in.

Ok sure Mike, I can certainly see using it to create a condition to measure true open circuit battery voltage. I think < 200 ma with all loads off is close enough, but fine. I want my charger to see battery voltage during charge with as little series resistance as possible. That’s me.
My main concern here is to be sure no one thinks that leaving their batteries disconnected for any length of time is an ok thing to do. It’s not. And I suspect that is what most people are probably thinking to use battery disconnects for, but I may be wrong about that.

Same sheet again. Not good, just disconnecting and going home. I don't do that either:)

Oh, BTW, I use my battery disconnect to disable the charging loop from convertor when running AC with my 2K genset. I know I can turn of convertor CB, but I'm already at front of trailer where genset is mounted. Know you are a quick start fan, no issues. I do what works for me.
