We are new r pod owner.  I would like to know if anyone has had to pull in their slide when battery is out of power?  Is there a way to do this? (just in case)

Simple. Connect your tow vehicle and let it provide the power needed.

Interesting you mention this.  On our very first trip, getting ready to leave for home, we were faced with a slideout out with no battery power after just one night!  Censored  It was a combination of Novice No-No's:

1.  Ran refrigerator on 12V.  [Didn't want to run propane while driving, and wanted to see how long the battery would run the refrigerator.  Correct answer:  d) Not long.]

2.  Didn't check battery state of charge.  Wall LED read "E", but since we just charged, and it was charging while we were driving (see #3 below), we figured there must be a problem with the indicator.  When the pump sounded like it as spinning slow, we put the reefer on propane.

3.  Later, back at the ranch, we found out that our mechanic did not run charge line when installing 7-pin connector on tow vehicle.  He thought we "just wanted a brake controller installed"!

So, we used up our entire battery running the refrigerator for less than a day.  The slideout wouldn't budge.

Luckily, I brought a backup battery charger/jump starter and hooked it to the trailer battery and got the slideout in.  

In my preparation to go out, I had read that there is a mechanical connection where you can manually crank the slide in, but I hadn't taken the time to find where it is (still haven't 🙄).


So, my slightly-experienced recommendation is to look up that information and give it a try ... in your driveway.

There is no manual crank for the current Schwintek slide-out mechanism. YouTube videos show how to disconnect the two motors and manually push it in, but then you would have to block it and your next stop would be a service department to get everything put back in order.

After reading the horror story's here. I installed a second battery box on the hitch. Put a second deep cycle marine battery bought for trolling motor in it. Once a week or so I will hook it up to a trickle charger.

I'm not sure at this point if I would ever need to wire it in for the extra capacity.

So I will just wait and see. The battery will be there.

Anyone have any good idea's on how to secure a couple of batterys from theft?

At this point I am thinking a couple of lengths of chain and a padlock.

Greetings
I place a chain around the middle of the battery box and use a small padlock.  Run the chain under the battery support frame.  If someone really wants the battery,  They will find a way. but this will slow them down.
