Running refrigerator on propane while driving

I agree completely!! I travel with my fridge running on propane but shut it down when gassing up if the trailer is going to be next to a gas pump. (If the trailer is out in the open away from the pumps I let it run.)

My Tacoma will charge the battery on the trailer while driving but apparently not if the fridge is running on 12 volt.
On our last drive coming home from our recent trip to Oregon I switched the fridge over to 12 volt during our last gas stop. Three hours later when we arrived home I checked the battery and it was at 2/3rds power.

I’m glad I have the option to run the fridge on 12 volt, especially if the propane tank ran out while on the road.

All the talk here about the possibility of RV danger on the road makes me think the best prevention is continued maintenance and diligence in pre-trip inspections.

It seems that most if not all of the RV fires I have seen on the road happened to affect older, poorly maintained shop-
worn rigs. Hence the term, ‘Fire Trap’.

But again, I think that people should do what they feel most comfortable doing. Don’t stress on it but be aware what can happen.

LOL

Hilarious! I would think the additional drag would decrease the MPG of your tow vehicle significantly.
