Calendar Event: 2017 R POD 178 Actual height Posted: 31 Jul 2018 at 6:06pm |
Hello R Pod'rs
I have a 2017 R Pod model 178 with the stock a/c unit (that I will probably never use). Can someone confirm the actual height of 9'5" is the height including the a/c unit?
Thanks Barryb

Thanks Mike;
I am new to the r pod world, do you know if the water pump is compatible with pumping water from a water container and into the fresh water holding tank?
Thanks Barry

No it is not. For people who have such a need, buying a small pump, or using one powered by a cordless drill, and moving water works. Or just plain old gravity.

Hmmmm I believe my pod is 9 foot 3 inch. I better recheck this number, before I have a 4 inch mishap

Forest River latest specs for a 172 is 9.6", might make a difference if you have 14" tires. New models have 15" tires.

My pod absolutely measures 9 foot 2 1/2 inches over the A/C unit (I remeasured). I assume not all pods measure the same. It could easily fluctuate a couple inches. I have 14 inch tires, so the newest pods are going to be higher with 15 inch (i assume they didn't lower the roof to accommodate new tires). I don't know if the "hitched height" changes it either. I think 9 foot 7 inches might be a smart number to use as a minimum. (just a side note: 9.6 is not the same as 9'6")

I worked in a truck shop for many years and remember the box trucks and trailers that hit the bridges. I just figure on 10 feet. Easy to remember and allows for those bridges that just had the road resurfaced under them and measurement not changed.

Never worked in a truck shop, but I remember when I read about our R-pod and remember 9 feet plus some change (maybe around 9.5 feet). At any rate, instead of remembering what the change was, I just made a mental note of 10 feet. If you have 10 feet, you should be good.
The Hood River pods have 15" tires and are about 3" higher off the ground. So there is that too.

+1, I would try and check it out on something close to an advertised height, some spare clearance would be important. I can enter trailer height in my GPS and it warns me when I am approaching a clearance issue. BTW - I use 10'.
