6x9 is just a tad small, stays all inside, 8x12 is a tad large.. hangs outside.. we honestly were happiest with a couple of 5x7 indoor/outdoors rugs, turned sideways, almost fit perfect.

How about getting one that's slightly bigger just to be on the safe side and folding the excess under itself so it fits inside the r-dome?  We use one of those silver/brown tarps that works just fine and is water proof and easy to fold.  Then, again, a nice Persian rug would be a nice addition over the tarp.  They are always on sale at the local going out of business Persian rug store.

A custom cut piece of indoor/outdoor carpet might work nicely too.  Don't they have big rolls of that stuff at the big box building supply places?

They do. Get a piece of I/O carpet (or "simulated grass"), and cut to fit.

+1 - Lowes sells outdoor carpet, you can trim to fit, I've used it to replace carpet on boats.
