I’m very familiar with normal configuration of water heater bypass valves but our new 189 has me frustrated. First of all to get to the back of the unit I had to remove the mattress then the sheet of plywood covering the compartment. Among the many manuals I received with the pod was nothing for the water heater, and the online manual represents nothing I have in my 189.
There is a cold water input with a valve on it and the lever is pointing towards the water heater... There is also a valve on the “out” hot pipe with the lever also pointing towards the water heater. The only other valve I find is on the line to the pump...and that is inline with the line.....help please 😜. Thank you |

Some newer Pods have a different valve configuration than they've had for years, so I won't try to help with that. And I don't know about where the WH is in a 180 either, but can't you take out 4 little screws on the kick panel in front of the water heater instead of disassembling the bed? I replaced my screws with velcro on the back of the panel, so there's noting to it to get to the water heater. Of course it's normally something one needs to do only twice a year. TT

We have a 189 and I took pictures of the water heater plumbing. I'll share those tomorrow because they're on my PC

Here is pic of the set up like mine, as Tars said newer Pods may be different. The valve you mention in line with water pump is the syphon line to add antifreeze when winterizing.

Greetings Trace the lines out. You should have a line from the pump, This is the water in line. the second line goes to the system piping. Between them, you will have a short jumper line with a valve. the other 2 lines will have valves. For normal use the valve handles on the in and the out will be parallel with the lines. The short jumper line will have the handle at 90 degrees. Hope this helps. In the fall you will close the 2 valves and open the valve on the short jumper line. What I did with my 179 is cut the plywood under the bed at the edge of the compartment for the water heater, added a 1 by 2 to support it, which makes it much easier to get to the WH. Crankster78

Here are the photos of my RP189 water heater. I put them in PowerPoint so I could add annotations. Let me know if you have any other questions. ![]() |

ZuBrew...thanks so much...this is exactly my configuration...your pics are very helpful!! Is the valve you show to the pump for antifreeze in the correct orientation for daily use? I plan to blow my system out for winterization so I shouldn’t have to touch this...is that correct? Thanks again for your time and help...regards, Bud
