Recently purchased a 2017 R-pod 179, my wife loves the kitchen, I hate the seating. Has anyone come up with a better system?

Thanks

Welcome and congratulations! May you have many great adventures and make many wonderful memories in the process!

Yes, I also did not like the seating. Check out my mods (link in signature for my solution to the table mechanism and dinette seating. There are also a number of other mods that may interest you. We have enjoyed our 179 and recently completed a trip of almost 6500 miles.

The best thing I did was take the table out and put it in the barn.  I made a table out of a 2ft square of formica covered 3/4 plywood and a slightly smaller piece for the floor. Then got a pedestal post and two mounting plates.  Now the table can scoot around or even take outside. We got rid of the curved back cushions and had some straight ones made.  Much better now.  The table pieces ride on the bed when underway.

IKEA futon (jackknife sofa) in place of the cushions. We also got rid of our table and bought a 20"x40" folding table from Walmart that can be easily tucked away between the bed and the slide when not in use.

A bunch of folks (including us) removed the "ottoman" closest to the bed. Makes a huge difference in floor space, and with the two of us, it was more in the way than not.

I use that ottoman as a table for my CPAP. Because of the futon, we have a cloth cover over it instead of the cushion on top of it.

I wanted to remove it but that idea got vetoed by my wife. She likes it for shoe storage.

Do you have any pictures of the sofa?

Not handy. I'll try to remember to post one or two when I'm home.

There were two options when we bought ours: one that would span the entire width and one that was a little shorter. We initially picked the shorter one because it was more comfortable when made into a bed, lighter, and easier to get into our 179.

We realized one other benefit to the shorter length when our kittens started camping with us: a gap on each end gave them an easily accessible tunnel behind the sofa where they could hide or chase each other.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I wish R-pod would have given more thought when they designed the sofa. What I hate is when I slide from the sofa to the ottoman and sink in all the foam. What where they thinking??
