There were actually two Balkarp sofas when we got ours. I think this is actually the shorter one that we ended up with, except with blue upholstery:

It just sits on the bench. The legs that come with it are not used. We did add 2x4s under the front edge to support it on the ottomans (without cushions), especially when laid flat. This was another reason we kept both ottomans.

With the longer sofa, you'll need to extend the slide to get it in the door. We were barely able to get our shorter one in with the slide in.

We always put dinette table outside with tablecloth along with another 4' folding table. All our living is done outside under rDome. This frees up interior space when inside immensely.

Hi - we have a 179 and I love the idea of the futon. Our Ikea only has the "Balkarp" sofa sleeper/futon. It's the exact size of the dinette bench so we like that idea best. Do you have photos of the futon and how it sits on the bench? I looked at the pics you posted but it doesn't show the whole futon in place. We are heading out this weekend for 16 days so would love to have this for our daughter before we go.

Thanks so very much!

It does have a wood frame. It just sit there without permanent attachment. We did add straps to keep it from moving around as much in transit. I have thought about adding rails to the bottom of the futon and top of the slide bottom to restrain its movement, but we don't really have an issue with it once we're parked.

Thanks for the pictures.  How did you attach the futon?  I assume it has a wood frame.

Here are a couple of early photos of the dinette area after we put in the futon.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I wish R-pod would have given more thought when they designed the sofa. What I hate is when I slide from the sofa to the ottoman and sink in all the foam. What where they thinking??

Not handy. I'll try to remember to post one or two when I'm home.

There were two options when we bought ours: one that would span the entire width and one that was a little shorter. We initially picked the shorter one because it was more comfortable when made into a bed, lighter, and easier to get into our 179.

We realized one other benefit to the shorter length when our kittens started camping with us: a gap on each end gave them an easily accessible tunnel behind the sofa where they could hide or chase each other.
