Anyone replaced their 3-way fridge with a compressor fridge?

If so, which brand and model?

I replaced my 3-way fridge with a Tundra compressor fridge in my truck camper and it was one of the best mods I made.

I know a couple people have done it.. I suspect you pull the one that's in there and measure what room you have, and then buy one that fits. We boondock some, so wouldn't work for us..

Thanks for the reply.

We boondock almost exclusively, as we do with the truck camper, and a compressor fridge is my choice for that.  Of course, one needs the proper batteries and solar panel to achieve it.  And that we have in both RVs.

I never did the math to see how much battery a small 120v fridge draws.. but since it will run for +6 weeks on a single propane tank.. I just run that way.We ran dual T-105s on the Pod..

BTW, what TC do you have? we are seriously considering a Four wheel Camper Hawk Shell...

The Tundra TJ42RE 12VDC/120VAC fridge in my Outfitter Apex 8 truck camper consumes 3.2AH at startup and less than 2AH when running.  I have two 100AH deep cycle batteries and two 110W solar panels on the truck camper.  I also carry a Honda EU2000i generator just in case but it doesn't get much use.

I hear good things about the Four Wheel Hawk.  I sure like my Outfitter and have had it since 2004.

Please, educate me and others here and explain what is the difference of a compressor and three way refrigerator and its advantages or disadvantages over the OEM three way.
Thanks!

Here's a link to a discussion on 3-way fridges versus 2-way (compressor) fridges.  When you read '240' just substitute '120'.  The Aussies know their camping.

https://blog.mygenerator.com.au/caravan-fridges-2-way-fridge-or-3-way-fridge/

In general, I replaced my 3-way fridge with a compressor fridge because I get more consistent cooling, the freezer really is a freezer, I don't have to level my truck to half a bubble, I have more room in the compressor fridge than the 3-way, and it works when the ambient air temperature is high.  It's just like a home refrigerator!

I got really tired of having food too warm or too cold with the 3-way fridge.

Plus, compressor fridges are used on boats and they can take a pounding.

Here's another link to a truck camper forum discussing compressor fridges:

I have a Tundra TJ42RE.  The Tundra line is no longer being produced by Dometic. However they were originally built by Vitrifrigo and continue to be made.

Of course, there are other brands on the market.

I am in contact with my local dealer (Seattle area) about getting one for my RPod and he can give you prices on the Vitrifrigo.

Was digging into some of this last week.  Check out the reading material on the Danfoss type compressor fridge.  Draws very little 12 volt power and can also use 120.  But can't use propane.  Working on the cooling capabilities of our Dometic now.
