Killing some time this morning watching an rpod factory tour
for the umpteenth time and saw this. Did
a double take and rewound the video. Below
is a screen capture of 2 men working on the roof of an rpod. Wanted to share it because just maybe, for
what ever reason, we’re being unreasonably worried about getting on top of the
roof for cleaning and maintenance. If you think about it - with the exception of the 180, every rpod has interior bathroom walls that would help support the weight of the roof. |

I finished the job yesterday and the trailer looks great. I did not do any "slithering" because with the right ladder I could use my "gorilla arms" and reach it all :-)
I really wasn't comfortable with getting up on the roof and was ready to use the plywood trick; in the end I managed to avoid that too. Thanks for the help.

+1 to Jato. Use a telescoping wash brush for washing and waxing (throw a waxing pad on it)

I have a piece of plywood that I cut to fit across the roof, as I move the ladder I can move the plywood to let me kneel on roof and wash/wax it. I'm a light weight but was concerned about weight on roof. Worked so far. I can see roof and issue up close.

My brother has a much larger T.T. than my 177 but he uses a telescoping handle apparatus (similar to what you use when painting walls/ceilings) and attaches a brush/sponge to the end. Easy to apply, a bit more effort required to remove the wax, but not much. Pretty slick. I am a little guy only 5'10", (i am shrinking!) and still 5 lbs. below my high school weight of 165 so I could slither but since I have gorilla arms (long) I can just make it w/o have to do the snake dance on top.

Walking all of your weight is on your 2 feet. How many square inches?
Slithering there is a lot more square inches making contact, so less load per square inch. I'm sure the day will come when I'll be slithering. Probably 2-4 weeks away yet. Compare to building some kind of a scaffold that would let you walk "Close" to the pod. Slithering does not seem so bad. |
