Hi Every one

I will be a new R-Pod owner this June 2018
I have a Toyota Venza and I will be getting the 176, all of the dealers say the the Venza will be good to tow. Has anyone on here used a Venza to tow, and what are your thoughts?

Also I'm looking to do lots of modifications. Can someone direct me to where they are on this forum. I have seen some good ideas on a facebook page with adding windows to the bunks. has anyone done this and what was your experience like, with adding the windows. Or is this not a good idea.

Looking into adding more selves/storage to the inside too.

Thanks in advance

tsteckley,

Mods are in numerous posts and many members have them included with their signature. My advice is when looking for mod info use the advanced search or start a new post asking about a particular mod and if anyone has done it and how. This is a very receptive forum, you'll get an answer or several:)

The modifications I have made to our 179 might not apply for a 176. However, they may give you ideas for ones that will work for you. Enjoy your R-Pod. We certainly enjoy ours.

I hope you have checked the tow capacity on that vehicle. in 2014 it looks like it was 1000 pounds. In 2015 it was offered at 3500 pounds. Not sure what your actual vehicle is. You will also want to make sure you atleast add a tranny cooler. But welcome to the pod world. I like the 176, i have the 172 which is basically a 176 without a slide.

Welcome.....when we started with our 179 we were using a 2012 Toyota Rav V6 Sport with a tow pkg. I also had a E2 hitch set up which was required.  So a similiar vehicle to the Venza.  As long as we were planning on staying local it would have suited our needs if we were careful with the weight.  I suspect that one of the reasons we got away with it was the type of hitch, which for the Rav was required.  I don't know where in Ontario you are or will be towing but you do have a wide selection of beautiful places to visit. As already suggested, make sure you have a transmission cooler and in addition a WD/AS hitch like the E2.  After that hook it up and give'er a go....you'll find out quickly if the vehicle is going to do the things that you want to do.

Thanks everyone for the advice. The Venza is a 6 cylinder rated at 3500 lbs towing, which will probably
be a little over once fully loaded with everything. I have just found a used Equal-i-zer Hitch 600/6000
,which should make the drive easier. I will be going on long and short trips out east and west all over Canada
and USA. Had a smaller pop up tent trailer which was around 2000 lbs or a little more loaded. It was no problem
pulling to the east coast. we already experienced campers from tent to tent trailer and now an r-pod. Looking
forwarded to this years camping season

Welcome! I recently purchased a 2018 RP176 and expect to take delivery in April. Can't wait!!

We are tent campers for the last 15 years so this is an upgrade for us to say the least.

What part of Ontario are you in?

We have a 2009 Venza towcap 3500 # never towed with it. I like the Tundra better for towing.
If you want something done right, do it yourself.
