Figured I'd share a simple mod I just completed on our Hummingbird over here -
After reading on this forum about people having road debris flying up and breaking their fresh water tank drain valve I decided to be proactive and replace the cheap plastic factory valve with a full-port angle ball valve and new aluminum bulkhead fitting. The entire project took about 5 minutes, literally plug and play. The new bulkhead has the exact same mounting flange and screw holes and the back has a barbed fitting for the factory hose and clamp. After finishing up I brought the factory valve up to my shop to save for later, after laying it on my work bench I realized that it had already been broken without our knowledge.......good mod. The guy that makes the bulkheads is really great to work with and the part he makes is very high quality. It has 1/8" NPT threads for a valve. The valve I found is a 1/4 turn valve and it operates very smooth. |

Pods don't have this type drain. Ours is just a plug. My only wish about the drain plug is, I wish it was at the lowest point of the tank. One tends to think a tank drain will drain ALL of the water out of the tank. Maybe its me.

I found the only way to get all the water out of the tank is to leave the cap off and drive about 10mi.

One can push up on the bottom of the tank and get more to drain. However, that is far from an ideal way to get the water out. If the bottom of the tank were supported so that it did not sag, then I don't think it would be so much of an issue.

We do the same as Wepod, open up the lower point drains and ho water tank then drive the back roads for a few minutes. Drains it all!

Didn't realize the pods were different. Couldn't you add a threaded brass elbow in place of the plug and convert to barb fitting, then screw a valve bracket to the frame like ours has?

Then they could be damaged by thrown road debris? |
