Topic: Flying a Flag Posted: 13 Feb 2018 at 12:45pm |
With my old popup camper I used to fly a US flag at our camp site. I had a bracket on the side of the camper that held a 15' piece of 3/4" steel conduit with the flag attached at the top. I haven't read of anyone doing something like that on here yet. If folks are, I'm just wondering how you're doing it? Is it a pole in the ground or something mounted to the Rpod?

I have a flag pole and assorted flags. It is a PVC rotating flag pole, that you can buy as kit or make yourself with very common PVC supplies. Mine is attached with hose clamps to my generator rack.

For the past 6 years we have a set up probably similar to mcarters. Purchased a 10' section of 1 in pvc, 2) 45 elbows, 1) 3 way tee, 2) 1/8" hooks to hold the flag, and 1 heavy 1" washer to place on ground so the flagpole rotates/flows with the wind. Had a piece of 1/2" rebar laying around. As I recall I had about $ 12.00 invested. I pound the 4' length of rebar in the ground (about 8" in the ground) place flagpole over it, takes about 1 minute to put up at campsite.

marwayne does that "Nose Job" swing open? If not, how do you access everything inside?

Also, I don't know if you answered this elsewhere, but have you noticed any difference in mileage and handling since you added the "nose?"

I appreciate the attention to detail described in this and other posts on this topic. For whatever reason, I have the misfortune of coming across too many flags in the United States that are leaned against or rubbing on something. Most of the time - depending on the setting - I politely speak to the flag owner (which is often a private-business owner) and they're quick to resolve it. Mistakes (and wind!) can of course happen to any of us. But it's always upsetting to observe when it's obvious that the flag could not possibly have flown free the way it was attached. So thanks all!
