Topic: Hopefully Soon Rpod Owner Posted: 09 Feb 2018 at 6:36pm |
Been researching rpods for awhile. Going to look at a 2010 172 Sunday. Any particulars to check out as I am a single female who will be traveling with my dog (and occasionally a college age daughter). My tow vehicle will be a Dodge Durango. I know to look at axle, look for evidence of any leaks, and to make sure everything works. Have camped since 10 months old in everything from tent to travel trailer to 5th wheel. Lots of life changes has me back in tent, but I am tired of the ground. Time to get back off the ground. Any advice appreciated.

Dealer or private party? I would look at general appearance and wear. Check the tires for weather cracking and tread wear. Leak evidence is important. Make sure the accessories work. Chances are you will not get a substantial warranty, seems to me you've got the right philosophy. If you can see if past repairs have been made and look at how added accessories were applied. Lot of the older trailers haven't been used much, and some have been abused. Good luck.

Depends on who your buying from as mcarter said, dealer or private party? If its a private party maybe you can negotiate to have it towed to a dealer for a complete check? If not make sure all the lights, inside and out, are working. Open cabinets and such to look for water damage and crawl under the camper for a good look see. Best of luck!

Welcome, congrats if you purchase. I own a 172, and I think its the best of the bunch. It has plenty of room for 2 or occassional 3rd, due to no queen bed taking up one entire half of the space. Also its still small enough to fit into most tent sites. It's pretty much a really nice pop up, without the set up and wet canvass concerns. One thing I would look for is does it have the dome.

It is from a dealer. Looks pristine online and in close up pics I had them send before committing to making the drive. Supposedly was kept under cover. It does have the awning with the screen attachment. I was told it was 1 owner minus a couple of months that a couple bought it and brought it back to trade for something larger.

If the tires are the original ones it is time to change them regardless of wear. I would also have the dealer pack the wheel bearings and check out the condition of the brakes. I expect all the appliances are checked out and woriking, and all seals are checked and serviced.

Congratulations! I've not much to add to what has already been said.
Perhaps, make sure you show up with the right tow equipment (like a brake controller), if you decide to purchase. RV dealer installs can take some time and are not cheap.

Thanks everyone! They actually know I am not prepared to tow. I was not planning to seriously look til end of month when this one came up. I am getting hitch and brake locally here in SC. They said it would be fine if I come back for it in a week if I do in fact purchase it after inspecting it. I also plan to have transmission cooler installed on Durango. I appreciate all the good advice. I am sure I will be back for more. My Dad was the master camper but no phone lines to heaven. :(
