Thanks Stephen H; I’ve really enjoyed reading about all your “pod mods”.

I used the furnace power connection to tap into for an outlet on the base of the bed behind the front ottoman next to the AC outlet that is in our 179. Then I tapped into the entertainment center power for another outlet next to the AC outlet that powers the television. That one powers my CPAP machine. I also installed USB power outlets at the same time. See my mods for further information.

Yes I saw a post where someone got a futon and put it in their camper. I just purchased a futon and will try to put it in this weekend . I just took out the foot stool by the bed and it’s so much better: much roomier.

We removed the ottoman near the bed to improve space in our 179. Bought a little tripod folding stool to use there when needed. We also replaced the soft foam in the other ottoman with firm foam so you don’t sink. Will probably replace the bench foam eventually, too. This worked great for our last 8-day trip and much easier than some of the more extensive modifications I have seen described.

We don’t plan on going off roading with our little r-Pod; Arkansas highways are just very rough

I am not aware of any problem with removing that one. We did not in our 179, but pulled both in the 195. Goes without saying, but I will anyway, the rpods need to be treated fairly gently on the rough back roads. The black and grey water valves hang fairly close to the ground when crossing washes and creek beds or uneven terrain. Have seen many rpods "out there" but they're not as solid as most tow vehicles. Throw in extra screws, tape and zip ties. Have fun!

We just got a 2017 r-pod 179 and so enjoyed reading about some of the mods you’ve done to your camper. We are considering our first mod: removing the ottoman closest to the bed. Will this in any way mess up the slide out weight distribution while slide is in and traveling down rough roads

I agree with StephenH. I have seen a mod where the ottomans and table were removed and office chairs on rollers were used, but that space got pretty cramped for two people, the bed, kitchen, and wet bath too.
