While we were in Punxsutawney, we heard about Leonard Harrison state park and Colton Point state park, which are on the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. With camping at the Leonard Harrison State Park, has anyone visited or camped there? Checked it out on YouTube looks like it could be a good time.

Leo, Just ran across your post and wanted to let you know PA Grand Canyon area is on our bucket list too! We have two kids in NW PA and one NE PA so were always making that run from east to west. You might also want to check out south of there to Bald Eagle state park near the little town of Howard, great campground beautiful park on a lake. Just wish we could find a decent campground, state park or not, near Wilkes-Barre.

Dave thanks for the info! A few years back we stayed in a pretty nice campground called "Twin Grove campground" in Pine Grove PA, 1445 Suedberg Rd. (717)865-4602. Used to be a KOA now not sure. It is off of I-81 near exit 100  a bit south of Wilkes-Barre. We really like it.
Will let you know when we check out the PA grand Canyon!

Leo, thanks for the recommendation of Twin Grove but as you say its a wee bit south of Wilkes Barre where our oldest lives. The closest campground we've found, time and distance wise, is Moyers Grove Campground in Wapwallopen (that's a mouthful to say!) Its rated four stars but at best I'd give it maybe three. It could of been when we stayed there but it seems to be a bit of a hillbilly heaven with having to listen to the blast of out door DJ music until 9:30 - 10pm on a Saturday night. If your into that more power to you. We stayed once at Lehigh Gorge Campground which is not far from 81 and just off 80, not bad but a little bit to far to drive to get into Wilkes-Barre.

The only other one we had been to was a campground probably halfway from Twin Grove to Wilkes-Barre, but we pulled in and proceeded to pull a quick U-turn. It was awful!
Will keep our eyes open when we swing through that area.

Are there camping places around the Del Water Gap on the NJ/PA border?  That area is really pretty.  We've gone for walks along the river there before moving away from NJ but I don't recall any camping areas.

Don't know off hand though you can look at State park list online for PA and NJ. Or check references as Google maps with just entering in campgrounds after you go to the area your interested in. Then there is the good ole old school method of getting a Good Sam RV Travel Guide and thumbing through the pages.

Update! Well scratch the Grand Canyon of PA of our bucket list since we made to it a few weeks ago. Traveled west to east on Rt. 6 one of PA scenic highways which was interesting trip and went into Wellsboro, a really cool town and a must see if your in the area. Stayed at Grand Canyon Campground which was okay nothing great but not bad either. If I had to do it over again by arriving during a week day I could of probably score one of the few, I think there is 8 or 10, campsites at Leonard Harrison State park. Its a first come first serve campground, 30 & 50 amp service with water and dump station, and the campground is within walking distance of the overlook to the canyon. Beautiful place but since then I've learned there are some really nice places to camp north of Wellsboro at state park on a lake. Learned that after the fact from the guy who owns the RV repair shop I deal with who's family is from there, small world indeed, who I sent out an SOS from there when my converter died. Lucky I was smart enough to have taken along a battery charger so we just rolled on once he help me diagnosis the failed converter.

Leonard Harrison State Park a few years back. Great spot for hiking and biking.
