I upgraded mattress to a 10" lucid gel foam mattress which weights 75lbs. I want to add (2) gas struts so I can get to the water pump easy.

Has anyone done this modification with this mattress on a 179? I need to know if I need 80# or 100# struts. What is the highest these struts can lift? Did you replace the plywood bootom for greater strength?

You'll want to go at least 100#, possibly more. We have not done the mod, but I'm basing this on posts I've read and the recommendations on the HatchLift website.

I plan on using 2-12 volt linear actuators to lift the bed (its an age thing) plus replace the OEM mattress with an 8” foam type for comfort and to save weight.  These are from Princess Auto similar to Harbor Freight.

Nice, but over $400 for two of them? I would think that gas spring shock struts would do the job and save you a lot of money. Here's one example:
eBay Gas Spring Shock.

This one comes as a kit:
Hatchlift BLK-STD Standard Bedlift Kit (for RV). See chart for correct sizing. You may need the small one instead.
