Greetings everyone. I'm new to Rpods. Purchased a used 2017 172 in Sept. When not using it we will still use our 28' Pioneer TT pulled with a RAM 3500 diesel dually.
Initial pull back from the dealer was 450 miles with a Jeep JKU. No problems at all with the WDH and brake controller. Pulled a small TT before with the same Jeep. So far the biggest updates: Remove some of the outside stickers Remove the upper bunk and make it into a shelf. Using Laundry Totes from Walmart for storage on the shelf. Bathroom vent cover Dish Network receiver to use with the X2 antenna we use in the big TT Added some under the counter's edge LED lights on a switch, on the side of the kitchen's counter and is accessible from standing outside the door. Added a LED exterior step light on a "master" switch and a magnetic switch on the screen door. Changed the TV antenna power supply to a much better one What I've noticed so far exterior of the Rpod is finished with higher quality workmanship than the interior. What a shame; however the interior is not bad and there were no real problems. Before we bought the Rpod I read most of the threads for maintenance issues and modifications. Thank you all for the abundant information. Happy trailering. Larry |

Welcome to the forum Larry and yes I have to agree with you that the interior RP finish needs a tightening up of quality control from the factory. Yet I've come across nothing in our pod interior or exterior that is not easily fixable.

Congrats and welcome. We are excitedly awaiting delivery of our 172 sometime next month. This being our first ever camper we'll have to give it a solid good look through to clean it up.

I just purchased an RPod 180 (2018). Never owned a rv before, always used a tent! Towing with a Tacoma off-road model. Have installed brake assist. Looking forward to hitting the road!
I'm planning several winter trips in WI and MI to photograph dogsled races. Need to purchase a generator. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new RP180! We love our 2017 180 and after going to an RV show a couple weeks ago were impressed with the upgrades of 15" wheels and new radio/stereo head unit in your 2018 model. As for a generator do some searching on the forum and you'll find what other folks are using. The size of generator, power out in watts, depend all on whether you intend to use the air-conditioning and microwave convection oven. |

As a minimum, I would recommend one of the 2000 watt inverter generators. I have the Generac iX2000 which is rated 2000 watts continuous and 2200 watts surge. That will likely work the microwave. Some have difficulty. My original one would not run on the generator, but the replacement did. One that I recently saw that I am impressed with is the new Predator 3500 watt inverter generator from Harbor Freight. I have seen some good reviews about it and the price is very reasonable. It would run the AC without problem. I am not sure if it would run the microwave, the refrigerator, and the AC simultaneously, but it might run two of the three simultaneously. The downside would be weight. The plus side is that the 3500 from the videos I saw is very, very quiet.
Evaluate what you want to do with it. If all you want is a way to keep your batteries charged and run the furnace and lights, you may be able to get by with an even smaller generator like the Sportsman 1000 Watt Inverter Generator. |
