I've got a couple of items needing warranty work on a two-month old R-180 and the closest dealers to me won't touch it unless I pay out-of-pocket and get reimbursed from FR.  Anyone know how long FR takes to reimburse owners who get service this way?  Thanks!

I don’t know but I’d make sure FR approves the work prior to them fixing it. I’m also in MA and considering Major’s RV for the warranty work. I’m unsure if FR will approve a non-FR doing the work.

I've already spoken with FR and am only looking at FR dealers or Camping World (whom they and my dealer suggested I take it to).  The two closest dealers to me won't do FR-paid warranty work.

In general, across all makes, a dealer will not, or will only under duress, do warranty work on a unit they didn't sell. FR has a statement about it on their web page, and often drops it into their marque pages. I have even seen it randomly show up on the FR Pod facebook page, and the new NoBo by FR page showed it just this weekend.

I'm new to the RV/Travel Trailer world, so I see it as a bizarre state of affairs that the industry was/is allowed to evolve this way.  Cars, trucks, airplanes all have manufacturer/dealer systems where both are solidly dependent on the other to make warranty work as hassle free as possible for the one person who is supposed to count... the customer.  Without new RV's, you don't have old/used ones and you have no service/maintenance market.  Very frustrating and bizarre.

FR loudly suggesting that buyers look locally tells me they are aware of the problem and frustration.  Buying locally might make sense if the product cost didn't vary as widely as it appears to in the RV market.

Maybe as more former backpacking boomers turn to the RV world (such as myself), you'll see some legislative pressure brought to bear on the industry, particularly the manufacturers.  It would seem to be long overdue.

About 30 years ago car dealers were exactly the same they would only do warranty on cars they sold. I believe it was federal legislation that changed things.

One maybe can accept a servicing dealer giving scheduling preference to a customer who bought from them, but to refuse out of hand.  There oughta be a law!  <g>
