When we try to turn the refer to operate on propane we get the gas insignia and red triangle warning flashing. Unit does not start.
Should we leave it on longer? Or have it serviced.

Several things to check and do:
make sure the gas is turned om
light the stove and let it burn for 30 seconds to make sure all of the air in the line is removed
make sure you have battery power or plugged in
try the ignition now-it may take several attempts-you should be able to hear a clicking sound of the igniter if you are outside next to the service panel

good luck

It's not unusual for you to have to reset the alarm a couple of times before it finally ignites, particularly if it's been sitting idle for a few weeks, even after bleeding the gas lines.
