Looking for info regarding Platte River National Campground, Michigan,
by Sleeping Bear Dunes.

We are booked for next week beginning with Oct. 8th, in hopes of catching the fall colors and maybe a little fishing. We have been in that area numerous times, all up and down that part of the state on a motorcycle or in my truck. However we have never stayed or been in the campgrounds.

With that said, if you know; How would you rate the campgrounds?

If you have been there in the fall.....and caught the peak of fall colors, does that area usually have some decent color? We have been to that area in mid summer and this is our first fall trip.

Is there anything special I might need to know?

Thanks Folks for any and all help and advice.

Hey Dave. We just got back from our first visit to Platte River. It's now our new favorite campground in Michigan. Sites in campgroud 2 are a bit small. Pretty close together in campground 1. Campground 3 had quite a few really nice sized sites with lots of room between each. Didnt feel like we were on top of the other campers. Plenty of things to see and do on road trips. Enjoy your stay there. Jim

Agree, campground 3 is the best for larger lot sizes.  We live about an hours drive east of Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes in Antrim County.  Color is a bit late due to the cooler and wetter than average summer; but the color is coming.  We are about 20% right now.  In Leelanau County where you will be you may wish to check out the following:  N. Eagle Highway, Newman Rd., Port Oneida Rd., Gills Pier Rd., and the drive along M-22 as well as Schomberg Rd.  Another great drive although a bit away from you (probably close to 2 hours away) is M-119 between Harbor Springs and Cross Village - especially when you go under and through the "tunnel of trees."  Our favorite )Antrim County) is at the parking lot at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort where you sit high on a bluff looking over a panoramic view of Torch Lake as well as acres and acres of hardwoods that will be a delight to the eye when the color peaks.  Also the drive on N. West Torch Lake Drive between McLachlan Rd and Indian Rd offer stunning views of Torch Lake and fall foliage when peak color arrives which is normally between the 2nd and 3rd weeks of October.  Enjoy your trip and THANK YOU for your service to this great country!

+1 on M-119 drive. I think it's the sweetest piece of road in the state. Stop in to the Legs Inn in Cross Village.

That and M-22 For Sure.

We took M-119 all the way along the Lake through Michigan Wilderness State Park. A few years ago I did both those rides on my motorcycle and that was great.

Yeah know the road. Pass by your home quite often and always checking for outside chages you might have made to your pod. Watched video of you in Petosky and stole the idea for the swim noodles on the ropes supporting your awning. Brilliant. I always trip over them. Platte River was the most relaxing trip we've had in a long time. Maybe because no grandkids with us that time. Maybe not. Anyway, enjoy your stay there.

I have another question; is there cell phone reception in the campgrounds. My wife's mother needs checking on.
