I just went to the Mother Earth News Fair last weekend at Seven Springs Resort, PA. We stayed in a state park a couple miles down the road; Laurel Hills State Park. It is a great little campground with a great camp host, highly recommend it. I saw two R-Pods there but didn't get an opportunity to talk to the owners. I was very surprised to see a 2017 179 like mine being pulled by a small Jeep Patriot. I would think the 179 would far exceed the tow capacity and wonder how they got it through the mountains.

OMG! I just looked and the most any Patriot can tow is 2000 pounds. Mostly they're around 1200 or 1300. Wow!

Next thing you know we'll see someone pulling an R-pod with a bicycle.

Hey buddy! I think you need a weight distributing hitch!

I think people try to tow eith what they have.  A good dealer asks what the tow vehicle is before making the sale. Others don't.

Considering towing with a tow vehicle the cost associated with likely accidents/problems far outweighs the cost of an adequate TV.

I hear ya! Our dealer sure wanted to know what we'd be towing our R-Pod with. When I told him it was a Jeep Commander with the 4.7L V8. He insisted the we get the WD hitch with such a short tow vehicle. It tows so much nicer than our old popup did that I'm glad he did.

Maybe some of the "long timers" here can help with this question....wasn't it the orginial premise of the R-Pod to be a unit that most people could tow with what they had parked in their driveway?  I ask because back when we first became aware of them at a trailer show there was a FR Rep(if I recall correctly) there saying that.
Seems we might have gone past that with the larger units avaliable now.

The earlier rpod weighed less than the more recent models. The 150 series was pretty light and our first pod a 171 was just over 200 lbs if I remember right. We told for quite a few years with our Grand Caravans , but I must say it it a lot nicer towing with our F-150!

Leo, that had to be a really "small" 171 if it weighed just a smidge over 200 pounds.  You could get 12 of your 171's to our 177, dry weight is 2440 lbs.
