I swapped out the folding table with Springfield Marine 1660230-BLK 3-Stage Pedestal - gas assist /self raising. Works great!!

That looks great. We want to do the same but a) $431 is way more than we are willing to spend. b) we will never need to convert to bed so just looking for a single pedestal. What size screws did you use to bolt it to floor?

3 1/2" SS - went through the floor and bolted underneath to a 1/2" plywood 16"x16" pressure treated. Floor is 2" thick 3/8 ply + foam +3/8" ply.

We also did a pedestal mount with a solid post. I think I paid about $20 for 3 pedestal bases and a post. The third base I mounted to a smaller plastic folding table that has coffee table height legs that we can use outside when we want a coffee table between our chairs. I used screws 5/8" screws with coarse thread that I had hanging around. We've use it for a season and it shows no signs of movement. I didn't want to penetrate the, hopefully, watertight floor under the trailer. I put a disc of thin plywood on the bottom of the plastic table to reinforce it.
We use the plastic table as our primary table and only take the OEM table along when we need to make the dinette of our 172 into a bed. The plastic table weighs considerably less than the OEM. I repurposed the old folding legs for a table that I use in the garage.

Having 5 grandkids we are lowering it to bed position every camping night and raising to table height every morning - repeat for naps and rainy days. I plan to coat the 1/2" PT plywood with spray on bedliner stuff and silicone .Bolts nuts and washers are SS.When I first installed I only went through the first layer of floor with coarse #14 screws - and it was very secure! I just thought it would not last so I changed the mounting to go all the way through. You are right the OEM table is heavy - when I took it a apart I was so surprised how light the metal folding stand was - all the weight is in the table top.
Although expensive I like not having to shuffle feet around the OEM stand. |

It is a really nice system. And with all the changes you have to make it certainly makes good sense, despite the cost. And you are absolutely right about the OEM scissors stands; they're awful for feet and legs.

This thing is sweet! One of my marina mates has one on their boat. I love precision, well designed, easy to use stuff. $431 is steep, but if use use it a bunch, I get it. The folding table in my 180 was horrible and I swapped it out for a post set up for under $20, but 99.99% of the time it stays up.
