Hello,
I have a 2018 r pod 176t with an 1 inch 1/4 receiver on the rear bumper. I would like to make use of the hitch to add a basket or some platform that could securely handle some boxes, to get some extra storage. I know that bike racks are not recommended maybe because of the pop out bed that shoots out of the back of our R pod... Any thoughts?

The reason they dont want bikes is due to the lack of reinforcement of that hitch. It will NOT carry much weight, and as you extend further out, the bounce factor increases the forces placed on this under enforced hitch. If you bring it to a welder, and have some structural improvements done, you can use it for a little more. Be aware that once you start adding weight to that back end, your decreasing tongue weight and increasing sway possibilities. Everything is a trade-off unfortunately.

It will not take much weight, I would weigh the tire and carrier and not put much more on than that.

There's been a number of folks that have reinforced the rear hitch for cargo storage, the hitch in standard config is rated at less than 150 lbs as I recall. If you plan a cargo carrying mod, look at reinforcing the current hitch.
