I guess I've been lucky.  I've never had anything stolen from a campsite in about 60 years.  Knock on wood.  I'm certainly not saying it doesn't happen.  I lock up my generator with, I think it's a 5/16" cable, a Master Python, $15.22 on Amazon right now, and don't worry about it.  I don't think it's totally secure with that but to my mind, there's a certain point beyond which worrying isn't productive, it's just stressful.

I use the python to secure my progressive portable ems to the pedestal. I figure the best you can do is deter the opportunist thief and have them move onto the next guy with nothing. Sad, but true.

I leave my generator in the bed of my truck which has a lockable cover. Like mentioned above, a battery powered angle grinder will cut through most locks or cables with ease.
