Topic: Tires... Posted: 16 Jul 2017 at 7:23pm |
So... Getting ready for our vacation - two weeks from now - just a short trip up the N. California coast to Brookings Oregon.
I decided to investigate the tires on the Pod (2013, 171 Hood River Edition)... It seems they were made on or about the 14th week of 2011 (at least that is what I discern from the information on the tire) and I think I may have a split appearing on one of the sidewalls. That puts them at about 6 years old, so I'm guessing new tires are in order before the trip!
The tires on it now are 235-75 15" - note they are the original tires. I would appreciate some input on what tires (size and brand) I should get. I'm leaning towards the Goodyear, but I am open to suggestions. I would like to have options when I go to the tire stores... Thanks cd |

We recently put Maxxis m8008 tires on our trailer (14"), and glad we got rid of the original tires!

This is one of the reasons I went ahead and bought the 2017 RPod 179. It now comes with a 15 inch tire standard which carries a lot more payload (approx 2500lbs per tire), and is rated up to 75 mph. Worth considering if you ever want to upgrade to the newer RV.

Also consider going to a D rated tire versus the standard C rated tires. The D class has a higher sustained speed, thicker sidewalls, and higher weight rating.

I stopped by some tire shops today...
This is what I found - all are 225 75 ST 15" and out the door prices. American Tire Goodyear Endurance E rated $336 Carlisle Radial Trail D rated $276 Less Schwab Towstar (two different models) $298 & $356 I was a little surprised at these prices... And Costco Towmaster E rated $203 I'm leaning towards the Goodyear, but maybe the Carlisle... Need to make a decision before Wed so I can get them on this week... cd |

Our camper has the 235/75/15 size tires. We recently went to our local discount tire and asked their advice on replacements in the same size. They installed these, we'll see how they do: https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/pathfinder-sport-sat/p/33395
