Howdy Ya'll,

My husband and I just put a deposit down on a 2016 R-Pod 180 (don't think it was used more than a few times).  We are very excited to start our new adventures!   We have never had an RV before but have always loved being outdoors and realized that if we wanted to travel and see the country on our fixed income, this was going to be the only way.  We chose a 180 because of the full bathroom and we did not need or want the u-shaped dinette.  A couple of questions:

We are trying to figure out where to go on our 1st trip.  We live in the mountains of Western NC (moved here in 2015 from upstate NY)....was thinking something along the coast (SC, NC, GA beaches) and was hoping someone could recommend a good campground.  We are trying to prepare ourselves for a much longer trip with many stops on our way to the Adirondack Mountains in NY at the end of September.

We are also buying an R-Dome from the dealer but was wondering if there is a better place to buy one (or other R-Pod items) at a better price?  I looked on line but couldn't find anything.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Jean

For a first trip, why not try something close to home? Cherokee Campground and Craig's Cabins in Cherokee, NC was a place we enjoyed very much. We saw "Unto These Hills" while we were there.

For the R-dome check out the bottom tab on this forum under "General Camping" and click it on, after that you will find a camper's flea market where forum members sell everything from r-domes to r-pods and everything (well nearly everything) in-between that is used related to camping.
Our first 'shakedown' campout in our 177 was in our driveway in March of 2011.  Yes it was cold out, toasty inside, and we were able to make a list of some of the things we felt necessary to go camping for more than an overnighter in our driveway. . . it was a great start.

Welcome.  You will love your 180 as we do.  We are retired and bought the RV to travel and see the USA.  We are not campers!.  Agree with Stephen.  Take some short trips to learn how to use it.  Also need to learn how to pack for it, get the right supplies and most important for us, how to optimally stock the refrigerator which is very small. Despite watching millions of YouTube videos we still make mistakes each trip out.  In terms of campgrounds we learned not to go by reviews.  We found that most reviewers are family campers and and rate things like facilities, activities, pools etc, none of which applies to us.  We want a quiet campground with a full hookup only.  So one of the best campgrounds for us turned out to have poor reviews. Also they are cheaper.  A site with no pool, dirty showers in a wooded secluded lot for $35 night vs a clean one with pool, lots of kids and hardly any space between campsites for $65 night and we go with the $35 site every time.  We also joined Harvest Host and stay at wineries for free for one night (it is suggested to just buy something) when traveling to a destination instead staying at Walmart.
