    Posted: 24 Jun 2017 at 8:36pm
I have searched the forums for anyone who has installed a rear camera but found very little information. I have a wireless rear camera and monitor so I want to install it o the back of my new 179 Pod. I was going to try to attach it to the rear spoiler and thought that I could tap into the running lights. I am trying to avoid drilling any holes in the shell of my pod and did not want to take the spoiler off either.

Has anyone mounted the rear camera to the spoiler? And did you tap into the running lights? Does the light pull out of the spoiler or will I have to take the spoiler off and then reseal it?

I did see an example of one owner (sorry I forgot who it was) who fabricated a mount on a post using the rear receiver and intially thought that would work. I found my running lights are routed inside the camper and not underneath - so I would have to run 12v out to power the camera. There is no wires underneath I could use on the new 179.

My wife and I use two way walkie talkies when backing into a camping spot but I would like to use the camera while on the road and in parking lots when I am alone.

What has everyone else done?

There is a lot of great information on this forum and hope someone can help answer my questions.

Thanks

I purchased a wireless battery operated camera with monitor. Expensive but works like a charm. Mounted it with exterior strength Velcro. When not on my RV I mount it on my Jeep.

rawest50 - Can you tell me the brand etc of your back-up camera and monitor, please? Sounds like what I've been hoping to find.

Rawest, I installed a wireless backup camera that I mounted to the spare tire carrier. hooked it up to the backup light wire on the 7 pin whip under the pod and ran a wire to the back of the pod, works well.
Here's the unit I bought, I also installed a flood light with a switch for light at the rear.

Is is a QuickVu Digital. I purchased it on Indiegogo. Pretty expensive but works great. $229 was what I paid to get in on the early bird special. Not sure what they are now. Just plug monitor into your cigarette lighter and turn it on. It states batteries in the camera should last a year. They are AA. It does not depend on putting your TV in reverse to turn it on. You can manually on or leave it on.

Here is the link: QUICKVU

I thought there might be interference from the rear of the camper to the monitor but absolutely no interference at all.

Anybody using the 12 volt Zamp connector at rear to power lights or other accessories?

I modified a metal led landscape light I bought at home Depot to plug into the zamp port, I use it to light up the step area. I stick it on the storage door magnet. Be aware that there is no fuse on this wire coming off the battery and you will need to add one. Search all my 180 mods to see it.

Did you end up installing the rear view camera on the spoiler of your R-Pod and tapping into the running lights? We are looking to do the same thing and are wondering how it turned out? TYIA
