Judging from the picture, I'm guessing the two are still attached via the safety chains. The Pod is inverted, the TV is not so, I don't see how the ball could still be coupled to the trailer tongue. I'm thinking the safety chains did what they are supposed to do...keep the vehicles attached/together. |

It looks like a WDH that uses chains. Whether there was sway control is unknown. I copied the image and enlarged it.
If any tire had blown, it would have been the passenger (door) side. That is where the fender is ripped off. The driver's side tire looks intact. However, it would be unclear whether the tire and fender damage is the cause of, or the result of the rollover. Being that it was one with the fresh water tank in the back, it could have been an issue of too much weight in the back if the tank were full. However, that can't be seen in the picture. Whatever the cause, it looks like while the trailer rolled, the TV did not. Thankfully, it looks like people were shaken up, but not injured. |

Why would a WDH be stronger at holding the TV and the trailer together than a regular hitch? It might be, but I don't think I see why. Where is the weak point in either hitch? That's what's most likely to break.
I think, but don't know about this either, that it probably makes more sense to keep the TV and the trailer together in a situation like this. Else you might have two giant things tumbling and careening down the road. Not sure how that would help anyone and it seems, at least arguably, that it would be more for other people on the road to have to dodge. Interesting questions. Let's keep them hypothetical though! There's always lots of discussion here pro and con - WDH, WDH with sway control, or sway control only. I use sway control only.
This vehicle and the trailer appear to be locked together pretty tightly. I assume it's because they were using a WDH(?). We all are vulnerable to blowouts. Would it be better, if a blowout or similar unexpected emergency develops, to have only sway control on the basis that the connection with the trailer is pretty easily broken??

Forensics:
Blowout on left trailer tire. Trailer diverts to steep median, rolls and takes vehicle with it. Call insurance. |

Ya know, I've seen a number of trailer turnovers and I got say, it's pretty impressive that that pod seems mostly intact. Most of the time the trailer is collapsed and in pieces. I'm sure it's totaled as far as insurance goes, but nevertheless it's in one piece without contents scattered all over the highway.
