Calendar Event: Hot water tank Posted: 31 May 2017 at 10:36pm |
So...taking our Maiden Voyage in our R-177 this weekend and have been watching videos on setting up an Rpod. I know how to fill the potable water tank now, but haven't seen anything on how to fill the 6 gal hot water tank. Need some instruction....thanks.

With the water tank at least mostly full, just turn on the pump and turn on the hot water at the sink. Just open the valve a little bit because all that will come out for a while is air, and it can come out fairly violently. Eventually, you'll start getting spurts of water and finally a solid stream of water. Turn the water off at the sink and then turn it on in the shower until you get water there. And you're done -- except you may want to top of the water tank.
Do you know how to set the hot water bypass valves?

They are there so when winterizing, you don't need 6 gallons of anti freeze just to fill that part of the system. They allow you to isolate and drain the WH independently, so it only takes 3 quarts or so to winterize, instead of 7 gallons.

Furpod is correct. But you might need 7 gal. if you forget to put the low point caps back on.... Don't ask how I know this.... :)

Just make sure the water heater is full prior to turning on the electric element or burn out will occur. With gas, no big deal.

So our pod is in the driveway. If not plugged into power, what heats the water? If I plug into power is the water heater operating off of 110? And, when camping, is the heat source for the water propane then? Sure feel like a pod dummie here!!

Oh, and how do you know the hot tank is full? I turned the pump on and opened the hot faucet in the sink and in the shower and eventually the pump shut off. Tank full then?
