Hey everyone new guy here with a 178. My wife bought it last November and we just got to take it out this past weekend. We love the R-Pod, it's perfect for us and it tows so easy. I do have a question about tires. We have Towmax STR Power King tires on it and suffered a serious blowout which took out our fender and fold out handle. I checked tire pressure prior to leaving and set them at 50psi cold. But this now has me worried and I am thinking of upgrading the tires to 15" LR D tires with a speed rating of L (75 MPH) so I can comfortably drive 65mph max without worry. Also where can I find the proper fender for the R-Pod? Is it just a generic fender? Has anyone upgraded to LT tires on their pod without putting in the axle spacers? Thanks for the help!

The Hood River edition R-179 comes with 15" tires. I don't think they change the fender, but I think they might add a spacer for the axle.

However, IDK for sure. You might just check to see if your 2013 tires are past their expiration date. There is a 4-digit code on the sidewall that should show the expiration date. Tires are typically only good for 5 years or so.

RVC,

Do you have 14s or 15s. Most of us that upgraded went to the Carlisle D rated. Discount Tire has them, make sure you get a tire with ST (special Trailer). I went to 14" D rated.

Mike, mine has the 14's with C rating. I will look into the Carlisle D rated tire. I was also looking at the Lionshead Westlake tires. How old is your English Bulldog? I just got a new EB puppy!

Welcome to the group. We also have a 178 and love it. It is perfect for my wife and me. I have 14" rimes and am looking at getting the D rated tires.

I just bought the Carlisle 14" Radial Trail HD ST205/75/R14 Speed rating M (81mph) and Load Rating D. Now I can travel at 65MPH safely!

RVC,

Good tire, you'll be happier at least more confident. My EB is 6, 80 lbs, sweetest dog I have ever owned. We have had to do some medical stuff with him, send me a PM and I will provide details if you have never owned one. One thing, do NOT expect responsiveness, they are stubborn in a good way. I have a friend with one and when he takes him for a walk he brings a wagon, when the dog is tired of walking he lays down and he has the wagon to get him home.
