We replaced our smoke detector after 3 years, I think they were rather cheap. Replaced the battery and made no difference; continued to chirp. So we did the obvious, kept the batteries and threw the thing out. Went to Menards, spent 10 bucks for a new one and here we are 3 years later and having no problems with that one, except when my wife gives it a workout when she does some great cooking inside; just to make sure the smoke alarm still works

Just noticed you are from Bend. We have friends there. Names are Glen and Nancie Schomloeffel. He is the Senior Pastor at Sunriver Community Church. We hope to someday get to Bend, what a spectacular beautiful area there in the Cascade Mountains! Can't do it on a 2 week vacation from Michigan, too far.

I'll agree with Jato, just replaced our 3-year-old smoke detector as well due to random, unexplained, alarms.

Actually...the reason our smoke and co2 detectors started beeping was due to our batteries being very low. Plug into 110 and charged the batteries....beeping stopped.

Same here. It was driving me crazy until I plugged it in.
