Topic: Anyone Add an Awning ? Posted: 26 Jul 2011 at 11:20pm |
Last year when we still had the 171 we had this awning made: It is (was) 7x7 feet and served us very well.

This is the awning rope:
It takes a pretty heavy duty sewing machine to sew it on.

A number of folks have purchased similar awnings from a company they found on eBay. Search on awnings... As I recall they were under $200. Based on the same principle as Huron Sailors.
To get that photo on the iPad, I have to make sure I have a strong signal, some rooms in the house are worse than others about signal with the Apple but okay with a Dell PC.

Would You tell me which particular awning rope you used to fit the C Channel. I would really like to make one of these! Thanks for the website.

Next time you have it up, can you get a close-up of the tensioners? I'm curious how that works.

The bead comes prefabbed, you just sew it on. It's called awning rope. I got it from a company called Sailrite in Indiana. Great company, been dealing with them for years. Here's a link to their online catalog page:

Your awning looks great and very functional, also appears easy to put up. I would like to know how you made the 'Bead' that fits into the C Channel? Thanks, and great job!

Thanks. It provides shade but lets filtered light through. I can set it up by myself in about 5 minutes.
When I replaced my sails years ago I saved these. It seemed like a shame to just toss all that fabric out. They've just been waiting in my basement for the right project to come along. Just for giggles I used plastic screw caps from one liter pop bottles for line tensioners.
