Not so fast. Methane has roughly 30X the greenhouse gas effect relative to C02.

The droppings of our wild horses here in rural NV are not very useful. They are so full of weed seeds that it can't be used in a garden. We just have to step around the road apples as we walk down the street.

Horses add a distinctive smell to their methane exhaust too, of which on average they produce 45 lbs per year, only about 1/3 of cows (there's a nice factoid for you). Not sure what their additive is exactly, but its not as bad smelling as human, dog, or cat exhaust....
There's a book out on the subject, Does it Fart? Another interesting factoid, snakes do but sloths do not. Who'd a thunk it....

We bag it and sell it to local gardeners and pays for the feed. As for the smell well to me that's the smell of money $$$

I thought methane doesn't have an odor, thus utility companies add mercaptan to make it smell distinctive so you know you have a leak.

Yes because horses produce CO2 (and stinky methane gas). But its can be zero net pollution because hay is a biofuel. If you use the team to cut, rake, bale, and transport the hay to the barn then you've got a pollution free self sustaining system. If you use a diesel or gas tractor to process and transport the hay then maybe not so much..... |

To lighten this recent gas verses diesel discussion here is what is now pulling my Pod. ![]() I get 35 miles to a bale of hay and bucket of oats! Beat that!
