TBH I’m still sorting this out but apparently our RPod axles are known for bending. There is a couple different models and I have the Lippert. I’m trying to determine the how much more pressure I have put on the axle with my current WDH configuration. I’m sure someone will weigh on on the best way to do so.

Best way is to weigh your axles with and without the wdh tensioned. My trailer axle weight goes up about 120 lbs but the actual amount of increase will depend on your particular rig and wdh tension setting.

The wife and I just got back off the road after a four and 1/2 month long wandering road trip from Seattle, WA over to Maine, down the East coast as far as Jacksonville FL then across to Mississippi, then back up wandering through Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Oregon and back home to Seattle. total miles 14,102 average MPG over all 12.5 crusing between 60 and 65 Mph there were lots of stops with family along the way and of course sighting at all the many cities along the way.
My 2015 TOYOTA Tacoma 4X4 sport model V-6 four door w/6' bed performed with out any problems. The only mod from stock was to add a larger transition oil cooler. We stoped for oil changes and tire rotations about every 5k checking tire wear regularly. (last check was 6/32 all round) there were many miles of back roads, not in the best of condition, but just took to easy and enjoyed the views. opps! forgot to add our R-Pod is a 2018 R179 Hood River edition. |

The2005 Murano only has a 3500 lbs towing capacity. Most of these trailes come in about 3000 empty. I have a Pathfinder with the same engine and a 5000 lbs tow capacity and it can be a struggle up the hills. Nissan is coming out with a 2021 Frontier with a 300 hp engine with 7 speed transmission that I have my eye on.

fyi just completed a trip over the rockies eastbound on I70 in Colorado pulling a 178 with a 2016 Grand Caravan. Did Vail pass at 40mph @ 3500 rpm. Approach to Eisenhauer tunnel (10700 ft) was more painful- slowed to 30 mph at 4000rpm and engine got warm but not redline. (AC off and heater on) Conclusion: The minivan can do it but it echoes the refrain- more power is desirable.

2014 Silverado Crew Cab and topper, it’s the 6 cylinder version. Plenty of truck, nice to not require anything special for towing.
