Pioneer State out of Lansing, Michigan. Bundled with our car insurance we have full towing, comprehensive, $ 1000.00 deductible for collision, and theft for a total of $ 76.00/year.

I got this from my auto insurer. It seems a bit high to me. It is attaching it to my 2014 Ford F150 XLT .
What are your thoughts?
Thank you for requesting a GEICO RV quote.
To provide coverage for your 2017 R-Pod 180, we would add the RV to your
existing auto policy. Based on the information you provided, your
six-month policy premium will be $538.14. This is an increase of
$176.86. This quote includes the following coverage:
· Your existing auto policy liability limits
· Comprehensive and Collision with a $500 Deductible
· Vacation Liability at a limit of $10,000
· Replacement Cost for Personal Effects at a limit of $5000
· Emergency Expense Allowance at a limit of $1,000
· RV Medical Payments at a limit of $1,000
· RV Roadside Assistance

Premiums vary widely from state to state and even within states. The best thing to do is ask different companies for quotes. In some states the TV and trailer are insured on the same policy, while in others they are separate. When comparing prices, be sure to also compare the coverages you are getting so that you are comparing apples to apples.

Tearless,
Not sure you can get an answer here. Insurance rates are very flexible based upon where you live. Get estimates, but appears you are getting a bundle rate, which in my mind is good. A single policy would probably more expensive and who wants multiple insurers. As an example my insurance in rural TN doesn't compare to same coverage in Nashville. I bundled with USAA and I'm content with that.

Bundling the coverage doesn't necessarily mean that there are not several policies, but that you have all your coverages placed with the same carrier. Mike is right that bundled rates are usually better. Insurers tend to give you additional discounts for putting everything with their company.
An example: We have State Farm for our home, our two vehicles, and for our trailer. All are separate policies but are bundled together with the same company. The trailer policy is a completely separate policy from the TV. Our trailer premium is about $135 a year, but that's one of the benefits of living in rural Nevada.

I think I will be calling USAA and Progressive my next days off. I was surprised that they wanted almost as much for coverage for my 1992 Bass Boat which is 1/3rd the value of the R-Pod.
Well I just checked with USAA who now uses Progressive for RV and Motorcycle. I've had them both in the past. Surprisingly Geico had the best rates of the three.

If your doing insurance I would look at adding an Umbrella policy for $1million. If your trailer ever comes loose it can do a lot of damage to other vehicles in a hurry and a 300,000 policy will quickly get eaten up and you could possibly end up with judgments that will take all your assets. It is cheap to add and will also cover your auto and home.

If you are going to get an umbrella, or excess, policy get one that covers all your personal lines coverages, such as your home, cars, etc., not just your trailer. Excess coverage is not expensive, but there is no point in only getting it for your Pod. You're just as likely to have something awful happen in your car, or your personal liability under your homeowners coverage.

I had been a USAA member for over 40 years but left them because of their almost 200% increase in premiums over about 2 years. that was home owners, trailer and auto policies combined. I called about the increase and they basically said tough stuff. No effort to help, nada. I have since dropped all insurance with them and combine Travelers and Progressive for the 3 and saved a bunch of money in the process. So their advertising about being a usaa member for life is just a ploy. Or maybe they just don't want us older policy holders. We are treated just like the under 25 bunch!

I've been with State Farm since 1963 and have had very good service from them and few complaints. Their premiums are pretty competitive with all the A.M. Best A rated companies. They don't seem to be chasing away their older drivers.
