Does anyone here have any campground or state park recommendations in the San Francisco Bay Area that are relatively safe for me to leave my RPod (locked and hitch latched of course) for several hours during the day so I can explore areas that I can't take the camper. Thanks!

Half Moon Bay State Beach. This is the link to the State Park web site. Its 40 miles south of San Francisco. They have water, electricity and a dump station and it's right on the ocean

We stayed in one across the bay from S.F. a couple of years ago. It is really a parking lot with hookups and a pool. Not the nicest but certainly the closest to downtown S.F. I believe it is near Folsom prison. Closer than any others we found. Name is Marin Park. Current fee is $75/nite. Expensive but just 10 miles from city. Safe Travels.

WE have stayed at San Francisco RV Resort in Pacifica. It is on the coast just S/O San Francisco. Very safe and close.

We enjoyed staying at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park => http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=570
It's a bit of a drive to San Fran, but the drive is spectacular. fred

I went on line to Calif. state parks and they say Half Moon Bay State Beach has no hookups. Is this wrong or is the web site out of date?

They have 50 sites with water and electricity. On the page for Half Moon Bay you click on the link "Online Reservation" and it will take you to the Reserve America Wed site, enter your dates and fill in the information under Narrow Results, trailer sites, length, and more options, for electricity hook up

A little over an hour north two ideas - there is a KOA in Petaluma; in Napa the County runs a very quiet park - Skyline Wilderness. Some weird deal on the prices posted on their website - reviews online show $30-$35 paid, the website shows higher prices - phone, I guess.
San Francisco such a great destination but you definitely don't want to take a trailer onto many streets there! |

I stayed in the Petaluma KOA this last spring in my teardrop. It is a really nice campground.
In the space along side me was an R181 pod. nice rig. The folks that had it were from Nevada I think and there were 3 of them, mom, dad and daughter. The only problem they had was with the trailer brakes. Not the pods brakes but the trucks brake controller. |
