Topic: Fresh tank drain Posted: 08 Apr 2021 at 8:51pm |
I noticed after this last trip that my fresh tank had some water in it. Sounds like the check valve issue so I’ll try running the pump to see if that “fixes” it. I think it’s been that way for a while because I see spots on the inside that look like mold or mildew and there’s a faint water line around the bottom as well. Then I noticed that the drain outlet is far from the low point of the tanks. WTH sense does that make? I’ll need to disinfect, and flush, but it would be nice to be able simply drain it when there’s water in there. I don’t like the idea of running the pump to empty it because pumps don’t like sucking air. Any advice? How hard to add a drain at the low point, or would I be risking breaking it if on uneven terrain? Thanks in advance.

Easiest thing would be to park on an incline that puts the existing drain as low as possible. I don't try to get every drop of water out of mine, you will still need to disinfect either way. Don't try to add a new drain, adhesives don't stick to that
material so if you get a leak you will be replacing the whole tank.

+1 We have done that ourselves and works quite well. Another way would be to simply drive it around with the drain plug out as you make right and left hand turns most will naturally slosh out. Not as good as the method OG gives but if you don't have a good sloping terrain to work with, a second choice.

Living in the Appalachians all I have is sloping terrain. My problem is finding a flat spot.

Same here OG as we live by Torch Lake and when the glaciers carved there way through this spectacular land there is a lot of terrain that is quite severe. Even on our 20 acres I can park the 177 and totally drain the FW tank because the slope is that steep.

Thanks for the feedback guys, especially about not adding a new drain! I wonder if a rollover leveler would do the trick to get her tilted.

If you have a pair of ramps, like the kind used for changing your oil you could put one on the non-drain side of your pod and drive it up on that. Would require 2 people so you would stop on top of ramp before going too far.

I open the valve on the tank let it drain then drop the nose down as far as it will go, and use the pump to get out the rest

I use my BAL leveler to get the last of the water out... Raise the side opposite of the drain plug and Bob's your uncle....
