Calendar Event: Rpod Furnace Posted: 30 Oct 2018 at 5:07pm |
We used our furnace several times on the way home from our recent road trip. I was really impressed with how comfortable it kept the inside of the pod. Couple of the nights were in the 40's and a few in the low 30's.

Leo, did you crack a window and overhead vent open a bit. We have noticed for the many years of camping in cold weather with our 177 that if we don't the walls and everything else is really wet with condensation if we leave everything buttoned up. With a window or two open just a smidge with the ff vent open just a little as well, the condensation problem is erased.

Hey Jato! yes when we use the furnace we usually crack a window and the fan vent. Definitely help to take care of any condensation. We also leave the vent for the fan open when we winterize, it helps with condensation as the pod warms up in the spring.

I've always been pleased with the furnaces in these things. Quite comfy when compared to my yesteryears of tent camping. My biggest complaint is the power consumption when dry camping. They use a lot of battery quick.
I think leaving the vent open is a good move. Mine is open year round, for that purpose.
Glad you had a good and safe trip!

Combustion gasses from the furnace (CO2 and H20) are vented outside (unlike with the catalytic heaters) so the only moisture inside the rPod is going to be coming from the occupants' breathing and from cooking. Minimal ventilation is required for that unless you have a bunch of folks sleeping in there or are boiling something so just cracking the vent and a window a little bit should do the trick nicely.

Crack the window on the side without the furnace vent.

You need to have a little bit of convection to drive the moist air out unless its windy. So the vent cover is really the best plus maybe a window. And even if you don't run the heater you'll still have the same amount of condensation, it will just be coming on more surfaces and will likely be frost rather than water if its cold enough in there

Great! I got "out of the saddle" a few years back. I decided my back side was getting a little to old and fragile to be sliding and tumbling across the pavement. Road rash is a painful thing! Way too many distracted drivers out there.
I still admire a nice bike and, on occasion, miss riding, however.

+1 - Big fan of the vent cover and both warm and cold weather camping.
