Still have not got the propane water heater to light.

All I can find inside the compartment is a small black on/off switch.

Propane works on stove, fridge. But I have yet to get hot water on propane.

I do not have shore power plugged in.

And I just finished finding the reason why my battery was going flat every night.
Trailer was not level, or not level enough. Leveled the trailer using a floor jack and the anderson leveler, reset the stabiliser jacks. Reset the fridge and no beeping. So that is a big plus (and a warning)

Does the water heater need the water pump on to light and work? Is there a pressure switch in the system? Because that is the only cause I could think of.

On the plus side we are making big strides on getting our 189 ready to roll. Shelf over the bed is built, found baskets at Aldi's to fit up there to hold light weight items like clothing.

Storage under the couch has 5 clear plastic small tubs for holding canned and dry goods. Keeps things fairly neat.

In the process of adding some 12 v plug in's with USB ports into various handy locations.  My wife does love her fans, so eventually need one back in bedroom area plus 2 near sofa.

The little black switch in the WH compartment is the on/off switch for the 120v side of the WH. It has NOTHING to do with the propane side.

I am assuming, since you are asking about gas, you HAVE had hot water on electric, is this correct? If it's not, and you have not, it's possible the "heater is working" but your valves are set wrong and the WH is empty. To have hot water in either mode, the bypass valves must be set to summer or use position. And the WH purged of air.

To run the WH on gas, you need to have propane, and propane on, (which you do, just posting the method), you must have 12v also. Then you turn on the inside switch. It may take a few "tries" to light. You should hear it clicking. If after 3 tries it doesn't light, the "DSI FLT" indicator will illuminate on the control panel. Turn off the WH switch and turn it back on to allow the WH DSI to attempt to light again.

The WH has no sensor to know if it has water, or pressure, inside it before heating. This is in fact one of the things owners can do "wrong" is to put the WH in electric mode, when the bypass valves are still in the winterized position, heating up the element inside an empty WH. Destroys the element in a few seconds.

WH does not need the pump on. No pressure sensor. It does require 12VDC so you do need a charged battery connected. The little black switch inside WH compartment is only for 120V operation and has no effect on gas operation. Turn on the wall switch inside the Pod. Note that ON is down.Confused The red light should illuminate for a few seconds until the burner lights. If the light never lights I'd guess there is no 12V to the heater. Check fuses/wiring/connectors. If the red light comes on and never goes out there is a problem in the gas flow or the igniter is not working. Near the heater you should be able to hear the igniter trying. It will time out after about 3 tries, leaving the red light on.

EDIT: Sorry Furpod. I can't read and write at the same time Smile

The switch outside the RPOD in the heater compartment is for 120v heat only.  A good test of the heater is to hook up to shore power, run water through the lines to make sure the 6 gal heater tank is full, turn on the electric switch and you should have hot water.  Yes you need to turn on the water pump to get that hot water to run through the faucet if you are not connected to city water and are using the water from your fresh water tank.  If that works, then shut everything down and attempt to use the propane again by only turning on the hot water from the inside switch.  A little red light should come one as it tries to light and will go off when lit.  If it does not light the unit will make two more attempts to light.  If the water heater does not come on the light will stay lit.  You can use only electricity to heat the water if you are camping with electric hookup.  But if boondocking you are out of luck and need to run on propane.  Ours broke while on a trip and had to be repaired under warranty but I do not know what was wrong with the propane part of the system while the 120v worked fine.  It seems it is not uncommon to have the propane part break.

Look inside the HWH where the flame would be.  Is there something like an insect nest or spider web?

I would recommend doing the following. Have someone inside, turn on the water heater switch while you are outside with the vent cover open. When switch turns on, Do you smell propane ? yes/no.  Do you hear a clicking sound ? yes/no. If you smell propane, but it doesnt light, you have an ignition problem and everything else is good. Next I would remove the small circuit board that is attached to the water heater, either under the bed or dinette. (it's usually wire tied or some really chincy way to the unit. Bring that board to the dealer to test. It might be inside a small box like enclosure. As far as do you have water in the water tank, Pull the emergency pressure release valve up, and if water squirts out, you have water

Much is made clear.

Shore power not hooked up so switch in compartment is doing nothing. Ok.

Switch inside which I assumed was for the electric is for the other. Since it is off, no hot water, no lighting attempt. Ok Learned something.

Tommorow will go out with wife have her turn switch on while I observe.

On the good news side, sounds like an easy fix.
Also on good news side, this is the last real hurdle.

We slept in the pod in our driveway last night. Good trial run.
Bit cool out, but we were snug as could be.

Have a few idea's on tweaking things.

Need to get the mattress up, find a good 12 v source (thinking furnace) and get one of my 12 v plug in's with dual USB ports installed in that part of the pod.  Will probably install it close to the 110v plug in. There is a little shelf there just right for a cell phone on dock. Which would give us clock and a bit of light.

Thanks all.

John, brand new 189, so no bugs yet but thanks for the reminder to screeen everything.

I pulled power from the furnace for a 12v plug/USB combo outlet, worked perefect.

WE HAVE A WATER HEATER!

Flipped the switch, by the time I reached the outside I could HEAR it running, feel the heat.

You guys ROCK!

Furpod which wire did you use?

I also installed a 12v plugin with 2 uSB ports over the left side of the sofa near the kitchen slide out.

I kinda cheated, used power from the light in center, used a coat hanger to make a channel for the wire. First went to the speaker (That was an easy no brainer) then to just short of the wall where I will mount it on ceiling.  Hole saw to make 2 nice big holes. Fishing the wire took a little time but really was not that hard. I just bent the end of my coat hanger into a hook, hooked a piece of Paracord on it, pulled it back through. Then pulled wire back with the paracord.

We are getting so close, it is getting exciting!

First big run will be Arkansas, Hot Springs area.
Thanks again guys.

Congratulations on getting your hot water.

As for your 12v plug issue.  We added a 12v circuit with USB plugs, a standard 12v plug (cigarette lighter), and a meter to it's own dedicated circuit.  The 12v panel had two empty fuse slots so I use one for the USB charger.  I used a 15 amp fuse and 12 awg wire and can plug a small inverter that I happened to already have to run things like our Mac or other low power AC devices.
