Just brought home my new 171 yesterday. First time camper trailer owner, was getting too old to climb in and out of a tent. Got 171 mainly because of low towing capacity vehicle. I wish Forest River had a specific RPod manual rather than a generic trailer manual. I really appreciate the additional info I find on this forum. VERY basic question here: the dinette has a strap supposedly to tie it down while traveling. However, there is nothing to attach the strap to on the wall or the seats. Is mine just missing something?

One end of the tie down on my model always seems to get buried behind or under the seat cushion. If you can't find it there, it probably is missing.

In my opinion, the strap is useless. My table hasn’t moved at all during transit, even when I forgot to drop it down and left it standing😳

OTOH, ours would have been quite mobile when we hit some of the bumps and rough roads we have encountered in our travel. If the dealer did not show you how, invert the table on the cushion and use the strap around the table (I looped ours above the middle brace section) to cinch it down so it will stay put. One of my recent mods eliminated the swivel legs in favor of two posts. The table now rests on two cleats and has hook and loop fastener strips to keep it in place. The legs go into a bag made from a towel and rest below. It is lower than the edge of the slide-out, so it now leaves the bench seat clear for use when the slide-out is in. You can see it in my mods (link in signature).

I so agree with you...I wish there was an rPod specific manual. I’m so thankful for this forum as a source of great information and help... we have a 189 and have totally removed our table...it was always in the way and there didn’t seem to be a convenient way to stow it for the road...

I have a 3" binder, made my own from info supplied by forum and on the interweb. BTW if you go to the Pod Mods, Tips and Maintenance section and go down to post about creating an instruction and maintenance manual. Nice place to start.

Hi, We just picked up our new 171 in June. The strap ends are under each seat on each side. I wasn’t going to use it, but someone said they left it unhooked and it let the table bounce all over.

The straps sort of work for the most part....until you pull the screw out of the wall! Our last leg of our trip a few weeks ago, I was digging out the straps from under the seat and somehow I overtugged one of them. The one screw holding the straps came out quite easily. Made me wonder how it even held the table in place. Haven't reinstalled it but I plan to put something more substantial there.

One solution is to remove the table legs and replace the table support with a pedestal. They are readily available from eTrailer and Amazon and are easy to install and inexpensive. It also makes getting in and out of the dinette a whole lot easier since your legs are not fighting the table legs.

We made a new table and used 2 of the removable columns with bases. The table is sturdy, easily removable and much easier to get around. Vann
