I am buying my very first r-pod 178 and will be leaving it in Oregon (I live in Hawaii).  My sister and brother-in-law along with my niece and her husband will be using it when I'm not visiting.  I don't have a tow vehicle but will rent a U-Haul truck w/ a class 2 hitch to move it around when I'm up there.  My niece and my sister both have their own pickups.  My question is what alterations can I make to the r-pod to ease any towing challenges that will allow for different trucks to tow her?  I'm looking for universal items.

Couple of suggestions. You will need compatible hitch and brake controller. www.etrailer.com is a good source. You could purchase the wiring harness for a brake controller, install in both vehicles, and move the controller between, or you could purchase the wireless brake controller, the receiver mounts on trailer, and the controller is plug and play (12v accessory plug). Then I would recommend you purchase an adjustable ball mount, that would allow you to move the ball and height adjust to vehicle. There is one that comes with the sway ball mount, so you could add sway bar to trailer, move the hitch from vehicle to vehicle and have the sway bar attached to trailer. I'm sure you know you need proper trailer plug wiring on both vehicles, that's vehicle unique. I have two tow vehicles, mine is pretty easy as both have similar towing capacities. Simplest way I can think of to make universal.

It gets more complicated if you're using a WDH. In that case, unless the hitch receivers are at the same height, you'd need two full hitch heads.

Moving a brake controller between vehicles I would consider a PITA, but that's me. Likewise, if you are using a WDH, the head unit will almost certain to be a different height adjustment per vehicle. Another PITA. I would recommend a different head unit per vehicle as well as per-vehicle brake controllers.

I have the wireless Prodigy brake controller and  a equalizer wdh hitch.  I have to flip the hitch over for my van and back over for my Jeep.  Works good for me.
