This was my thought as well. Just wanted to ask the experts. Might be something wrong with the mechanic not the truck. I think he just has a bias toward full size trucks.

Balderdash, they have been used for tow vehicles for years. I don't think the vehicle manufacturer's lie about capacities. That would be criminal.

I tow a 21' Camplite, which is more than 1000# heavier than a Pod, with a 2013 Tacoma with no problems at all. So far it's racked up more than 30,000 miles towing. With a towing package, WDH/SC, and a 4L engine it's no problem. The BS flag flies above your mechanic's shop.

I would get a second opinion. We have a Nissan Frontier. It tows the R-Pod just fine. Team it with a weight distribution/sway control hitch, and you should not have any problems. Ideally, you would want a diesel to tow, but sometimes, we use what will work, not what is optional/overkill for the task.

Opinions are like _________.
Don't sweat it. I wouldn't tow with it either, but that doesn't mean it won't do the job just fine. Just means it wasn't built at the Kentucky Truck Plant. LOL |

If the truck's owners manual says you can pull 6000 lbs I wouldn't worry about it as long as it came with the tow package.

I went down to the mechanic this morning. For an issue on another vehicle. While i was there, i said, hey, can you just take a quick look at my Nissan Frontier and see if there is anything i might want to address before i start towing with it. He said, " I wouldnt use that vehicle to tow a trailer" . I pointed out that i have 6100- 6500 pound towing capacity. He said he wouldnt recommend that truck, or a Toyota Tacoma, for pulling even a heavy duty utility vehicle. He says wheel bearings, and rear end cant handle it. I know there are several people with these vehicles. Any such issues with yours, or someone you know? I really hate this whole " whats the right tow vehicle " crap. It should be guaranteed that if the tow capacity is followed, the vehicle is the right one.
